Ranking the regions: #10 6-AA

Have you ever wondered what regions are the best regions in the state for boys high school basketball? Georgia Hoops has. We decided to rank the top 10 in the state. We'll countdown from 10 to one this week. Agree? Disagree? Just let us know in the comments section at the bottom of the story.

10. 6-AA

Power teams: Wesleyan looks like a heavy favorite to win the AA state championship thanks in large part to the return of Georgia signee Howard Thompkins. He's been one of the toughest players to defend in the state this year and has the Wolves playing good basketball. The team has only lost two games and both games were lost by a bucket.

Greater Atlanta Christian is quietly enjoying a nice year at the AA level. The Spartans are young and gave good size and a well-balanced guard attack. Every year there is a team like this one that does good work in the post-season. It would surprise me if this team makes it to Macon.

Sleepers: Decatur is having a strong season and with wins over Riverdale, Houston and Lovett, the Bulldogs have a strong body of work. A one-point overtime loss to Lithia Springs has value, too. Don't be surprised if this team can sneak into the post-season again.

Notes: The depth in the south division of this region is strong. In fact, all four playoff teams from the 6-AA region should come out of the south based on talent alone. That won't be the case because of the way the region playoffs work out and the top two teams from each sub-region move on. That could be bad news for the likes of Wesleyan, GAC, Avondale and/or Decatur.

Random thoughts: Jan. 19 and Feb. 1. Circle those dates on your calendar. That is when Wesleyan and GAC lock horns in what looks to be a great region rivalry series.

Playoff projection: Wesleyan, GAC, Lovett, Pace
