Random thoughts: 4 to watch

It is an important game day today and there are a number of key games to keep an eye on.

Meadowcreek at Berkmar

I'll be at this one tonight and this one is interesting for a number of reasons. The winner cracks open the lead for second place and potentially first in 8-AAAAA. Berkmar won by 17 points in the first meeting. The Patriots are playing strong ball at the moment. So is Meadowcreek for that matter. The Mustangs beat region leader Parkview by 20 last week. The Wesley Witherspoon-Teondre Williams match-up is about as good as it gets in GwinCo this year. Keep an eye on Berkmar's senior point guard DeMarion Gordon. He went for 11 three-pointers against lowly Grayson last week. What to expect tonight? I like Berkmar by seven.

Dunwoody at Blessed Trinity

The rematch is finally here. This is the game of the night in Georgia as the AAA powers meet up in a much anticipated match-up. Blessed Trinity (22-1, 12-0) beat Dunwoody (19-3, 11-1) 73-68 on the road at the start of the year. This game might be a little different. Dunwoody is playing the best basketball of any team in the state right now. Blessed Trinity tasted defeat on Saturday at Marist. Both teams are hungry for this one. It should be a battle but I don't expect this one to be nearly as close it the first match-up. Dunwoody is just too good right now and just too big.
What to expect tonight? I like Dunwoody by 12.

Northview at Wheeler

Keep a close watch on this one. Wheeler, the state's top team in our Top 20 Power Poll, has yet to lose to a state team this year. Northview, a team anchored by the great play of Ralph Sampson III down the stretch, is itching for a quality victory over 6-AAAAA foe. Wheeler's athleticism should prove to be the difference maker. What to expect tonight? I like Wheeler by a dozen.

Marietta at McEachern

The Cobb County battle is always entertaining. This one will definitely be electric. Charlie Hood, Marietta's legendary coach, is aiming for his own Bobby Knight record. Hood is just two games shy of 900 career wins. It won't be easy to earn tonight as McEachern proved it can beat anybody this season but also fall when they should win. With the game at McEachern, the Indians are looking strong. But Marietta has won 19 straight games and is the only undefeated team in the region. The Blue Devils beat McEachern 74-58 at home in the first meeting. Call this one a push. What to expect tonight? I like McEachern by two.

Other notables

Stephenson 16-5 at M.L. King 19-4, both are 10-2 in region 2-AAAAA play

Marist 16-5 at Miller Grove 19-4, Marist is surging at the right time, keep an eye on the Mfon Udofia-Dee Goens match-up

Stone Mountain 17-6 at Tucker 18-5, the crowd will be rocking for this one
